Ferne Elaine Bruton, age 92, passed on October 22, 2025.
Ferne was born on June 18th, 1933, on a farm outside of Lyons, Nebraska, the daughter of Forrest and Iva Arnold.
She attended/graduated from Lyons High School and took many higher education classes related to her career in Finance.
She married Billy M. Bruton on August 24, 1953 and to this union were born Peggy Elaine and Patricia Diane.
Ferne was a bookkeeper for Haver Lockhart and for Barstow School for many years before retiring.
She loved books, bingo, movies with the family, auto racing, square dancing, traveling and attending each and every event they could make it to for extended family. While growing up Peggy and Patty traveled with them to many places and thought that was how every family lived.
She was always up for any activity the family wanted to plan through her ‘80’s. She enjoyed music, played the piano, square danced, was one of the official scorekeepers at several auto racing tracks while Dad was also working there. They started a successful photo and t-shirt business in the Kansas City area and she kept things running while everyone else did the running, printing, etc. A woman of few words, we knew not to interrupt her when she was reading. You rarely saw Mom or Dad without a book. A great trait they passed on. She will be dearly missed. She did have a unique sense of humor with those close to her.
Ferne is survived by: daughters Peggy Corbett and family and Patty Mart and family, grandchildren Bryan Bramhill (Jill), Nicole Bramhill (Aaron), great-grandchildren, Miles, William, Ruby and Julie.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Billy Miles Bruton (“her Billy”), son-in law Steve Mart, granddaughter, Shelley Rene, parents, Forrest and Iva and siblings, Jean Sumner, Lee Arnold and Roy Arnold and many extended family members.
A private family celebration of life will follow.
