Flora Ruth Johnson, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, due to Alzheimers. She was born on January 16, 1938, in Enfield, North Carolina, to Paul and Lalah Boseman. She moved to California on her honeymoon with Cauin Timothy Johnson III, who preceded her in death in July of 2023.
Flora was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and sense of humor, which brought joy to everyone around her. She is survived by her brother, Wayne Boseman; her daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Jay Vasi; her son and daughter-in-law, Cauin Timothy IV and Chiqui Cavanna Johnson; and her daughter, Joy Gordon. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Mieka, Jorel, Tailar, Jeon, Terra Gabriela, Cauin Timothy V, and Markel; and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
After graduating from Aurelian Springs High School in 1957, she attended East Carolina College, where she graduated in three years with a degree in Home Economics. In California, she began working as a social worker in a womens prison in San Bernardino before earning her teaching credential and moving to Hemet. Once in Hemet, she taught 7th grade social studies at Acacia Middle School for 30 years. After retiring from Hemet Unified School District, she went to work for the California Youth Authority, teaching special education students there for four years. She retired a second time but wasnt finished teaching, so she began working for Cal State San Bernardino as a mentor teacher for aspiring special education teacher interns. She continued this until 2018.
Flora was a dynamic, industrious woman who loved people, learning, and being involved in social activities. She spent her time exercising, line dancing, being involved in church, going to book club, Bridge club, or Spanish club, participating in three different local sororities, as well as the Green Coalition, city council meetings, and many other groups. She enjoyed being active, trying new things, and sharing life with people. She also loved to travel and visited many different countries with friends.
Flora cared deeply for people. She enjoyed spending time helping and giving to others. One of Floras favorite gifts was taking her grandchildren on special trips, creating unforgettable experiences and lifelong bonds. She shared her love of traveling by taking each grandchild on a trip after their 8th grade year and high school graduation.
Her legacy of love, education, and community involvement will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Hemet, 515 E. Kimball Ave., Hemet, 92543
