Florangela Calderón, 46,
Went home to meet her Savior on the morning of September 29th, 2025. Florangela was born in Managua, Nicaragua, on April 3rd, 1979. She immigrated with her family to the United States when she was seven years old. She was a proud Eastwood Trooper, part of the Burgos Six, and went on to UTEP to begin her journey as a lifelong educator. Florangela started teaching at Helen Ball Elementary and later became a librarian fulfilling one of her dreams. She was EPISD Teacher of the Year in 2024, and her invaluable knowledge, passion, and spirit made her library the heart of Charles Middle School. She was dearly loved by students, parents, and colleagues. Florangela will be greatly missed.
Florangela met and married Pedro Calderón in early 2006. Together, they had three beautiful children – Zuriel, Elliana, and Noah. She was fond of saying that her favorite people called her “Mom.” She enjoyed time with extended family and the many adventures and trips. Flor had a creative gift and loved sharing her talents in baking, crocheting, sewing, painting, pottery, and graphic design with friends and family. She also had a beautiful voice, singing lullabies to her three babies and loved being part of the worship team at Alive Fellowship Church, a community that helped grow her faith and allowed her to serve the body of Christ.
Florangela is survived by her parents Alejandro and Rosa María Burgos, siblings Alex, Fernando, Mayté, Victor, and Monica. She leaves behind her husband Pedro and children Zuriel, Elliana, and Noah.
Florangela’s lasting legacy, woven through years of being a classroom teacher, librarian, and friend, is her enduring gift to us.Funeral arrangements are at Sunset Funeral Home at 4631 Hondo Pass on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, beginning with Visitation at 5:00 PM and Prayer Service at 6:30 PM.
