Florence Helen Cameron was born on June 30, 1928 in Central Chapara Cuba to the union of Maud Providence and John Hendrickson. She was the fifth of 10 children. She immigrated to the United States of America in 1960 to join her sister, Olive. Not long after her arrival she became a member of the Youth Mission of Life, Bronx NY (the church that her sister attended). There she had a life-changing experience as she was filled with the Blessed Holy Spirit. God called her to be a Praiser, which she did faithfully in good times and bad times until her Savior called her home. Many times when her nephew, Michael went to visit her at Andrus on Hudson they would sing hymns and choruses as they praised God together.
On September 29th, 1962 she married Richard Cameron and to this union two children were born; Edward and Thelma (deceased)
Before coming to America Sister Florence was the caregiver for some children of US government officials in Cuba. She was also an accomplished seamstress.
For many years, here in the states she was a well-loved and very dependable foster mother for the City of New York. It was very common for her to get an emergency call to take in a little one who needed a home immediately. She willingly and faithfully answered each call. There were times that she had 3 to 4 foster children living in her house. Many of them she kept in contact with until they were adults.
She was an amazing giver of her time, herself and her finances. Often you would see her with bags of goodies to share with others.
During her final years Aunt Florence was blessed to be ministered to by a very loving, caring and extraordinary home attendant, Ms. Ruth Matute. She served Aunt Florence faithfully from 2013 to 2019, treating her as she would treat her own mother. The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to you Ruth.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Edward; her sister Margo; brother Hymie; a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
Also mourning their loss are her Pastor, Elder William Mosley and her Spiritual Family at the Youth Mission of Life..
