Florence Fotitsa Halikias

Florence Fotitsa Halikias passed away at the age of 103 on July 28, 2022. Florence was predeceased by: husband Angelo; parents Matilda and Spiro Varadamatos; siblings Donna Likoudis, Dimitri, and Katherine Evagelatos; Son Sam Halikias; son-in-law Stanley Metaxas. She is survived by: daughter Evelyn Metaxas Holt; Niece Matilda (Tilly) Evagelatos Carbo; grandchildren Michael Metaxas, James Metaxas and wife Carolyn, Kimberly Metaxas and husband Sean Hover; great grandchildren Dallas Hover, Nicholas Metaxas, Antonio Metaxas; and many Godchildren. Florence was born on January 6, 1919 on the island of Kefalonia in Greece. She came to the United States in the late 1930s. Over the decades from the 1940s through the 70s she and her husband owned Milton's Grill and JJ Fruit Market in Binghamton, New York. She also worked many years at the Argo Restaurant on Court Street. Florence enjoyed dancing, playing cards, making Spanakopita, cooking for friends and family, and attending services and volunteering for the Greek Orthodox churches in Binghamton and neighboring Vestal. Thank you to the Bowen, Carbo, Hover, Lesko, Tigue, Weiss, Weisser, and many other families for a century of joyous memories. Thank you to Sean Hover for graciously spending the past many years caring for Florence in her home. Thank you to the staff at Wilson Hospital for creating a comfortable and caring space during her last days. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 11am to 12Noon at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY. A Funeral Service will follow at Noon. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery.
