Florence Jane (Guyer) Mauk, age 92, of Tomahawk, WI, and formerly of Claysburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Florence was born in New Enterprise, PA, on November 3, 1932, to the late Chester O. and Arbutus R. (Bailey) Guyer. Florence was married to Kenneth P. Mauk on December 27, 1949; he preceded her in death on February 1, 2022.

Known to close family members as Jane, she is survived by her three daughters, Gail (Ted) Manna, of Palmetto, FL, Janel (Joe) Piper, of Staham, GA, and Kim (John) Walter, with whom she resided, of Tomahawk, WI; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janet D. Sowder, of Catlett, VA, and her brother, Boyd (Kathy) Chappell, of Portales, NM; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Arbutus; her husband of 72 years, Ken Maul; her brothers, W. Wayne Guyer, and Melvin S. Chappell; her brother-in law, Bob Sowder; and her sister-in-law, Anne Guyer.

Florence graduated in the 1950 Class from Greenfield-Kimmel High School, Claysburg, PA. She was employed briefly at the Roaring Spring Shoe Factory and Sam Klevens' Department Store. She enjoyed life as a wife and mother and as her daughters grew, she joined the workforce again, first as secretary for the Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School, then secretary to the superintendent of the school district. After many years, Florence made the work move to Altoona and did accounting/payrolls for WRTA Radio Station; then on to Dembert and Hoyne Accountants. During all this time, she also handled all accounting/payrolls for the family business, Mauk's Service Station, until their retirement. She ended her employment years in 2005, as payroll officer for Corle Building Systems, Inc. and Corle Construction, Inc.

Florence loved life. She enjoyed her family and loved teaching Sunday School and Adult Bible Studies at Christ Lutheran Church in Claysburg, PA. A women of many talents, she loved to sew, making all her girls' clothing even winter coats. She loved to quilt and had a quilt shop out of her home for a period of time, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She also loved making pottery and had her own kiln. There is nothing she would not try to do and had every gadget for each craft! She loved to travel and enjoyed camping/RVing and she and her husband have been to all 50 states. Pinochle was her card game of choice and boy she loved to win! Florence loved to cook and bake and each season did much canning and freezing. She also loved making candy, especially hard candy and this became a family event during the holidays. She really loved teaching her grandchildren to bake and sew---a great teacher who loved to spread her knowledge to others. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all cultivars. She had just planted her raised bed for the summer joy. A great lover of animals and enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the lake at her home in Wisconsin. Most of all, she loved the big family gatherings held throughout the year filled this laughter, all her kids, good food, and a good gin and tonic or a cold beer!

Florence loved life and all who knew her knew her strength and fortitude. She could be a force to reckon with, but had a soft, loving side especially toward her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They made her eyes light-up. Her family was her life…….

Services for Florence will be private, per her request. She will forever be in her loved ones' hearts. A void that can never be filled. She went as she would have wanted----on her own terms. No fuss or frills.

Donations can be made to the Claysburg Community Library in Florence's name. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
