Florence Jean Murray of Amesbury, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024,
at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, MA, following a period of declining health.
Florence was born in Haverhill, MA, August 24, 1937, the eldest child of Lavinia Frances
(Wright) and Hazen Bryant Chamberlain. She was recently widowed by her husband, Robert
Grayson Murray, Sr., with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Her childhood days included living in Salisbury, MA and then moving to Newburyport where she
attended school. She was a 1955 graduate of Newburyport High School, where she was actively
involved in her role as baton squad leader, an activity she loved. Under her high school photo
"wait for Bob" were her plans for the future.

She married Robert in May of 1959. The couple raised their family of 3 boys in Amesbury, where
they resided for nearly 60 years. During those years, Florence took great pride in working in the
Amesbury school system in the lunch program. She was manager of the Amesbury High School
kitchen upon her retirement. Those students were her favorite as there wasn't much that got by
her and she wasn't afraid to put them in their place. “Flo” will be remembered with fondness by so
many of the former students.

Florence and her husband were road trip people and would travel the country to see family or
simply the US. They did have a fondness for the west and Native American culture. Her other
hobbies throughout the years included familiar things, ceramics, meticulous knitting and
crocheting and later she familiarized herself with computer word games, Mahjong and solitaire.
She was a people person who definitely had the gift of gab. She enjoyed conversation with
everyone. She lit up when anyone came to visit, even more so, if you brought your dog for a visit,
too.
Her family, however, was her entire world. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Robert G.
Murray, Sr.; her eldest son, Robert G. Murray, Jr.; her parents, Hazen and Lavinia Chamberlain;
and her brother, Edward Chamberlain. Florence leaves behind her sons, Kevin Murray and his
wife Michelle and Timothy Murray and his wife Janice. She also leaves her grandchildren, Adam
Murray, Rachel Minnichiello and her husband Brandyn, Ashley Murray, Ryan Murray, Lydia
and Cecilia Murray; her sister, Lynda Chamberlain and her husband Richard Wyrwicz, as well
as many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their Aunt Flo and her closest of close cousins,
Audrey Martineau of Ipswich, MA.

ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no calling hours. A committal service will take place at Highland Cemetery in
Ipswich, MA at a later date. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Hampton.

“That’s an understatement” is something I’m sure all of you have heard me say…. Well to those who think I have gone too soon… that’s an understatement! I have had the most wonderful of times in my 86 years of existence. All the joy, all the sorrow, all the celebrations and holidays. Nothing compares to an entire family coming together under the same roof enjoying my cooking. You all have to fend for yourselves in the kitchen now! I never would have made it this far without all of that and all of you! So let there be no tears , let the be no woes, just lifelong happiness for an old lady who got everything out of life that she ever wanted all because of each and every one of you.

May love and open arms be your greeting as you always did us all.
