Dr. Florence Doris Sanchez

Dr. Florence Doris Sanchez Ph.D, a resident of Maurepas, passed away at Passages Hospice of New Orleans on Thursday January 22, 2015. She was 87 years old. Florence was born on November 13, 1927 in Maurepas, LA. She was the daughter of the late Edith Jones Sanchez and Alonce A. Sanchez. Florence was a retired math teacher from Hammond High. She also served as assistant principal at Southwood Academy, principal at Natalbany Baptist, and taught at Southeastern Louisiana University. She touched many lives with her gift of mathematics. She is survived by six nieces and nephews: Kenneth (Lynn) Sanchez, Kathryn (Rolly) Bruce, Sharon (Ron) Edwards, Lorinda (Ronnie) Gourgeot, John (Toni) Sanchez, and Paul (Phillis) Girard. She is also survived by 14 great nieces and nephews: Cherie (Jay) Ledet, Kristin and Gabrielle Sanchez, Jim (Melissa) Picou, Kyle (Alisa) Picou, Ron (Jackie) Edwards, Ryan (Clance') Edwards, Ryan Gourgeot, Russell (Kelly) Gourgeot, John and Jason Sanchez, Keri Girard, Paul (Christina) Girard, Whitney (Colby) Tyler. She has 16 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Sanchez; and her sister, Maxine S. Girard. The family would like to say a special thank you to Kristin and Gabrielle Sanchez for their care and love while Aunt Florence was in Hospice.
