On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Florence V. (Raver) Thompson, 97, of York, formerly of Seven Valleys, residing at Country Meadows of Leader Heights went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was the devoted wife of the late E. Gerald Thompson for 60 years before his passing in 2007. Florence was born on January 13, 1928 in North Hopewell Township, to the late John and Katie (Hoffman) Raver.
Florence was a homemaker, and also was an excellent seamstress who worked for several local sewing companies in the York County area. She was a member of Pleasant View Church, where she was also an avid member of the Women's Fellowship. She assisted her husband as he served as a Minister at Pleasant View Church for many years. Florence also assisted her husband while he was a Pastor for 11 years at the Shrewsbury Church of the Brethren. Florence was a member of the Ladies Auxillary at the Brethern Home at Cross Keys Village where she volunteered for many years.
As a seamstress, she enjoyed making clothes for her daughters and other family and friends. She would also make quilts for church along with quilts for wall hangings. Baking was another fine quality that she possessed. She enjoyed baking pies for the Women's Fellowship, church events and friends. Florence would also can many fruits and vegetables from her garden, including her award winning canned carrots. She shared many of her family recipes with her family and others.
Florence was always happy and smiling, and was cheerful to everyone. She was also a caretaker to many family members over the years. She truly enjoyed serving the Lord and doing the Lord's work.
Florence is survived by her children, Kathy J. Scott and companion Randy Wanbaugh, Nancy A. Godfrey and husband Stanley, Jr., Patty L. Mundis and husband Al, Larry A. Thompson and wife Tina, and Randy E. Thompson and wife Karen; 16 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two grandchildren; and five siblings, Anna L. Godfrey, James H. Raver, Edwin Raver, Kathryn E. Clark, and Esther Fix.
The family would like to thank Country Meadows for taking such good care of Florence for the past 4 years, along with Life Song Hospice for the past 4 weeks.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, August 23, for 1 hour from 2:00pm until a funeral service begins at 3:00pm at Pleasant View Church, 10384 Winterstown Road, Red Lion, PA 17356.
