Florentina "Tina" McCarthy passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025. She was 95 years of age. Tina was born in Waihiawa, on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. She was the daughter of the late Madeline nee Montalbo and Marcelino Idigpio. Tina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert J. McCarthy; son, Albert T. McCarthy; and granddaughter, Melissa Lynch. She is survived by her children, Madeline McCarthy, Kathleen DiDonato (Joseph), and Charles McCarthy (Lisa); daughter-in-law, Christina McCarthy; grandchildren, Tina (Scott), Michael (Marybeth), Joseph (Deyamira), Theresa (Matt), Angelarosa, Joseph (Nicole), Francis, Andrew (Ashley), Brian (Maggie), Kevin (Leighann), Nicole, and Taylor (Matt); and by her 30 great-grandchildren. Tina lived within ten minutes of Wheeler Army Airfield and Schofield Barracks which were also attacked on December 7, 1941. Her family narrowly escaped the bombing. During the war, Tina worked at the Dole Pineapple Plantation. After graduating from Lelehua High School in 1949, she travelled to the mainland seeking opportunities that were not available to her in her hometown. After visiting family in San Francisco, and New Jersey, she came to live with her aunt and uncle in Philadelphia. She got a job at Philco where she met her loving husband of 48 years. They raised their children, first in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and later moved to Mayfair. The last years of her life were spent at Lafayette Redeemer where she was cared for with dignity and great kindness by the staff there.
Tina's family was the joy of her life. She raised her children and helped to care for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with all of us and was always interested to hear about what everyone was up to. She loved to cook and to bake and we all benefited from those wonderful talents. While her children were in grade school, they came home to a hot meal every day at lunchtime. Dinner was always a delicious home cooked meal that almost always included a homemade dessert. Everything she did for us she did with great love.
Tina's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening, July 18, 2025, from 6 to 8PM, at McGhee-Givnish Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave. Southampton, PA 18966. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave. Southampton, PA 18966. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30AM. Tina will be laid to rest at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, PA.
