Florida Franklin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Funeral Home - Goliad on Dec. 8, 2025.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. Psalms 23:1
Florida "Lucreshia" Franklin, 81 years old, went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2025. She was the daughter of Berthold Franklin and Joe Ella Youngblood Franklin born on July 11, 1944. She had four brothers (Leon, Berthold, Billy, and Anthony) and one baby sister, Alfreda. She was a long-time member of the Minnehulla Baptist Church in Goliad, Rosewood Baptist Church in Austin, and Union Baptist Church in Fannin, Texas.
Florida had one precious little baby boy, "Little Howard," who lived just a few short days before passing. Florida was full of life and love. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was a sweet and generous soul, and she was as strong Christian woman, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was so loved that she had many nicknames from various family members. She was known as: Sugarbaby, Sugar, Guinea, Tittie, Miss Nellie, and simply as "Aunnie."
She loved to laugh, watch her stories, cook and praise the Lord in song. Her fried chicken, French fries, and chili beans were second to none! Although she conquered many challenges in her life, she never lost her hope or joy. She was caregiver to Mother Joe for many years. Even in the last years of her life, her nurses would hear her spontaneously start singing "The Lord Will Make a Way Somehow" which would ring throughout the hallways of the facility. However, Soon and Very Soon was her favorite song. Aunnie would tell just about everyone she met "I love you!." One of her famous sayings was "God woke me up this early this morning, drinking coffee, who wouldn't serve a God like that?" She was quick to say in conversation, out of the blue, "I love the Lord!" And she meant it with her whole heart.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son, three brothers, Berthold Franklin Jr, Anthony Franklin, and Leon Franklin, and only sister Alfreda Reed. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her laughter, her strength and courage, and her love to all who loved her including a whole host of extended family and friends.
She is loved and she will be in the hearts of those who knew her best until the end. Rest well Sweet Aunnie.

I always looked forward to seeing cousin Florida when we visited family. She would always make you feel loved giving you a hug and a kiss telling you that she loved you. Cousin Florida had a light inside her that could not be hid. Bringing to mind the song this little light of mine. Well Cousin Florida, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! I love you family and let your light shine!

I will miss my cousin. Her life displayed a true example of how to worship God even in the midst of turmoil. Her strength came from her love of God and she lived for Christ. She may have had some physical limitations but her praise for God was very much uninhabited. I thank God you were a part of my life. Thank you for each song we sung together. I will forever carry you in my mind and heart. Always my family.
