The funeral service for Floyd Jacob Heiser, 80, of
Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Pastor Micah Sieg and Pastor Leland Armbright officiating. Burial at 3:00pm, at Hoffnungstal Lutheran Cemetery, Eureka, SD, with Military honors by Eureka American Legion Post 186. Floyd died Monday, February 5, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm, Monday, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Floyd Jacob Heiser was born February 13, 1943 to Jacob M. and Emelia (Oberlander) Heiser in Eureka, SD the youngest of 10 children. He cherished growing up on the family farm 10 miles west of Eureka where he attended grade school at Holzworth #43 school house and graduated from Eureka High School in 1962. Following high school Floyd began work at the Eureka Equity Exchange.
Floyd was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1964-1969 stationed primarily at Minot AFB and CCK AFB in Taiwan. Following discharge from the Air Force, Floyd rejoined the Eureka Equity Exchange as the manager of the Long Lake Co-op. He married Linda Weisser October 24, 1969 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leola. They made Long Lake their home where they spent 17 years raising their children Eric and Susan.
On March 17, 1986 Floyd and Linda purchased Heiser's Jack and Jill grocery store in Leola. They owned and operated the store for 11 years. In August 1997 they sold the store and made Aberdeen their home where he worked for Kessler's grocery store until his retirement in 2010.
Floyd enjoyed tinkering. In Long Lake he had his "old house" where he did wood working and was known for his 1953 Chevy pickup "Old Red." He was always excited to host family reunions and was "Uncle Floyd" to not only his nieces and nephews but their children as well. He loved reminiscing with family and friends, especially in "Eureka German."
Floyd was very active in the Long Lake community where he served a term as Mayor, was town clerk and treasurer for 14 years, 17 year member of the Long Lake Fire Department serving as Chief, held multiple positions on the Salem Emmanuel Church council and was a member of the 50th jubilee committee and involved with the town's 75th jubilee, both events which were very special to him. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion serving as Commander of the Long Lake Legion and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda of Aberdeen, two children, Eric (Melanie) of Sioux Falls and Susan (Brian) of Aberdeen, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Heiser of
Amarillo, TX, Samantha Heiser of
Bloomington, MN, Dylan Zuraff of Sioux Falls, and Nicholas Schaible-Heiser and great-granddaughter Aubree Schaible-Heiser of Aberdeen and Father-in-Law John Weisser of Eureka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Emelia Heiser, siblings Herbert, Clara (Kristi), Ruth, Walter, Elmer, Harry, Lillian, Rueben, and Alice and Mother-in-Law Ella Weisser.
