Floyd Myers Hill, 101, died in his sleep in the early morning hours of May 16, 2024. He was preceded in death his wife, Ethel Mae, sisters Janice Buckelew and Marilyn Hill, and parents, Benjamin F. Hill and Mattie Hill. He is survived by his children Cindy Hill (Teresa Balcarcel) and Spencer Hill (Geri Hernandez), stepdaughters, Cheryl Manzo (Jim) and Ziena Marshall Faltin, grandchildren, Dylan Kulesza (Shanna), Onyx, and Jarrett Hill, great grandson, Ethan Kulesza, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Floyd was born in Kenedy, Texas. He attended high school in Alice, Texas and college in Victoria. He worked in the theater business with Interstate Theaters he held positions of Chief Usher at the Majestic, assistant manager at the Broadway, Laurel and Aztec Theaters.
With Handy Andy he held the following positions following positions: store operations, assistant manager, store manager, retail hardlines supervisor, store planning, and equipment purchasing agent.
He volunteered for the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a ship to shore naval gunfire control radio operator in the Joint Assault Signal Company. Serving in 22nd Marine Regiment, and 6th Marine Division in the Pacific theater. He fought in numerous battles, including the Battle of Okinawa and was present in Tokyo Bay, Japan for the surrender.
After retirement he volunteered as a docent at the Institute of Texas Cultures for almost 30 years. Until the covid shut down in 2020.
Memorial service at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Simplicity Funeral Home, 211 Brooklyn Ave, 78215, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15.
