Floyd Lancaster Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care - Pryor on Mar. 29, 2025.
Floyd Tead Lancaster, 86-year-old Pryor resident, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at his home. Floyd remained independent in his home until the day of his passing. He was born in Tulsa on March 5, 1939, to Floyd C. and Dorothy (Andrews) Lancaster. After high school, Floyd served his country in the United States Air Force from March 1957 until September 1960, Honorably Discharged with the rank of Airman 2nd Class. In November of 1961, he married the love of his life, Barbara J. Morehead, in Miami, OK. They lived in California, where he was a member of the Carpenters Union and owned and operated Sugar Bear Construction Company. Floyd was a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He was a member of Calvery Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. They moved to the Pryor area in 1979, and Floyd worked all over Oklahoma and Arkansas, building science labs in hospitals and schools. He also owned and operated Sugar Bear Courts Mobile Home Park. Floyd officially retired in 2009 but never slowed down. You could find him working in the yard or tinkering around in the garage at any given time. When he did take time to relax, he enjoyed watching old westerns.
Of all the roles Floyd had throughout the years-husband, father, veteran, carpenter, business owner-the one role that would define him is Grandpa or Papa Ted. Floyd was the proud grandpa of seven boys, six girls, and ten great-grandkids. Grandpa Floyd spent much of his time donning a Hawaiian shirt and chauffeuring the kids across Ft. Gibson Lake. In the same waters where he had spent many of his younger years fishing and spending time with friends on Fun Island, some considered him the unofficial king of the party island. He always ensured his fridge was stocked with chicken nuggets and corn dogs and that his top dresser drawer was full of candy. Floyd and Barb, who spent years keeping three ornery boys and a little girl in line, enjoyed the more carefree approach of being grandparents who got to focus on the fun things – spoiling their grandkids. His love for his family was evident in every moment he spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, on November 20, 2018, his parents, and a brother, Bob Lancaster.
The surviving family includes his children, Jim E. Lancaster of McKinney, Texas, Ted H. Lancaster of Newnan, Georgia, Floyd Lancaster, Jr. and wife Jamie of Ft. Gibson, Kendra Lancaster-Jostes and husband Matt of Broken Arrow, a sister, Sue Jones of Frisco, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Stephens-Key Funeral Home in Pryor.
