Forest James Gates, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, at Montgomery Place Nursing Home. He was born on February 2, 1935, in Sedan, Kansas, to Forest and Gertrude Gates.
Forest dedicated most of his professional life to being a truck driver, showcasing his work ethic and commitment throughout his career. In addition to his work, he found joy in simple pleasures such as fishing and deer hunting whenever the opportunity arose. Forest's true happiness stemmed from sharing these moments with his cherished wife Betty, whom he adored and considered his whole world.
His warm and loving personality extended beyond his hobbies into his relationships with family and friends. Forest held a special place in his heart for his wife Betty of 64 years. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Forest leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to be carried on by his surviving family members: son Jimmy Gates (Theresa) of Independence, Kansas; daughters Pam O'Daniel of Nashville, Tennessee, and Judy O'Daniel of Independence, Kansas; grandchildren Stacy Hickam (Matt) of Topeka, Kansas, Morgan Decker (Lee) of Savannah, Georgia, and Jennifer Navarro (Tony) of Payton Colorado; along with eight great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life.
Forest is proceeded in death by his wife Betty and son Jerry O'Daniel.
Forest James Gates will forever be remembered for his kindness, humility, and unwavering love for his family. May he rest in peace as his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
