Forrest Jamison Obituary
Forrest Robert (Bob) Jamison passed away peacefully at home, on February 11, 2025 at age 83.
Born in Hickory, NC, to Forrest and Ruby Jamison, Bob was student council president of Hickory High School, graduating in1960. After school he helped his parents working at his father's marina on Lake Hickory, and coached Little League on weekends. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill while also completing the Air Force ROTC in 1964. Bob's first Air Force duty station was in Wuerzburg, Germany, followed by assignment in Florida. He then returned to his home state of North Carolina entering Federal Civil Service, Office of Personnel Management in Raleigh, North Carolina. Bob enjoyed music and ushered at Reynolds Coliseum for the Governor's box.
Bob transferred to the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, as a Civilian Personnel Branch Head, in eastern North Carolina in 1981, where he met Anne.
They married in April 1984 with Bob's son Chad as his best man, Lori (his daughter) and Rebecca (Anne's daughter) as maids of honor. Robin (Anne's daughter) provided guitar music and songs with her Annunciation school music ensemble.
A honeymoon through eastern Canada was followed by travels all over the world from China, Hong Kong, Europe, South America, Australia, Russia, the northern countries, Hawaii, and the USA. Bob and Anne loved learning and meeting new people! When daughter Robin said," I'm the one who's going to take care of you when you're old, so you need to live within 30 minutes of me", so they retired, moving to Sun City Carolina Lakes in South Carolina in 2008.
Blessed with nearby family and wonderful friends, Bob was active in tennis, horseshoes and pickleball. He worked as a gate greeter in Sun City, where he enjoyed meeting another group of great supportive friends. The Charlotte airport was also close by for travel.
As grandchildren came along, and Anne's sister and her extended family migrated, and with Lori and Chad in Raleigh, there were many large family gatherings of three generations.
Another blessing: Bob decided to join the Catholic faith and had many good talks with Monsignor McSweeney. Bob and Anne requested to get married in the church April 28, 2014, by Monsignor McSweeney and while discussing annulment, Monsignor McSweeney discovered he had signed Anne's earlier annulment back in the 1980s and Bob's now in 2013. This made all three of them feel like God had had a plan all along.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister (Janette Collins, deceased) and his beloved father-in-law (Bill Long). He is survived by his wife, Anne, children: Chad Jamison, Lori Hall (Ray), Robin Dumas (Jason), Rebecca Herbert (Chris) grandchildren: Jackson, Savannah, Cameron, Sadie and Alexander and nieces and nephews and their children. Our blessing is that a new extended family member is due to be born in March.
A Mass of Christian burial will held on Friday, February 21st at 11:00 AM at St Matthews Catholic Church (Main Sanctuary) with Fr. Balkey Celebrant. The family will receive friends at Robin and Jason's home from 12-2:30PM.
