Forrest Skinner, 90, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Forrest was born November 11, 1930, to Amos and Florence Skinner, in Coweta, OK. Forrest grew up on the family farm just outside of Coweta. He participated in Future Farmers of America, along with his sister, showing hogs and cows. His childhood would not have been complete without some antics including jumping off a 30-foot bridge into the Arkansas River. He graduated from Coweta High in 1948.

On August 25, 1953, he married Alice Thomas in Amarillo, TX. In a few more days, they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

After attending Ozark Bible College in Joplin, MO where he met Alice, they married and moved to Amarillo. Forrest sold insurance for Businessmen's Assurance and Metropolitan Insurance and worked at Whites Auto Store. Then in 1964, he became a tax enforcement officer for Texas State Comptrollers Amarillo office, retiring in 1992.

He served as past secretary and president of Bivins Foundation, and past treasurer and president of Panhandle Evangelistic Association. He was an elder, deacon and taught Bible school classes at West Amarillo Christian Church and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Forrest was a charter member of Paramount Christian Church. At the time of his death, he had been a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church for almost 20 years.

As a young man, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. After retiring, he served in the calling ministry of Washington Avenue Church bringing hope and comfort to hundreds of sick and disabled members and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Dewight Harp, and brother-in-law, D.W. (Sonny) Harp.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Skinner, of Amarillo, TX; a daughter, Laurie Allen and husband Matthew, of Austin, TX; a sister, Jannette Harp, of Coweta, OK; a nephew, Dewayne Harp and wife Melanie; niece, Denise Harp; and great-nephews, Michael, Eric, Clayton and wife Rachelle.

The family suggests memorials be to Washington Avenue Christian Church's Family Service Center, 3800 S Washington St., Amarillo, TX, 79110
