He is also survived by his children, Chris (Mallori) McGrew, Stephanie (Dustin) Schiele, and Deana McGrew all of East Peoria; his brothers, Paul (Linda) McGrew of Springfield and Bobby (Debbie) McGrew of East Peoria; and sisters, Tina (Todd) Spurgeon of Bartonville, Mary Harding of Weematuk, Ginger McGrew and Vivian McGrew, both of East Peoria, Rose Clewell of Creve Coeur, and Karen Creel of Peoria; and 2 grandchildren, Quintin and Sarai.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffrey; his sister, Sheila; and his stepfather, Norm Hard.
Dean graduated from Manual High School and spent 25 years as the Assistant Plant Manager at Glide-A-Way in Peoria before the company closed. He then joined Advanced Technology Services and remained there until 2021, when health issues prevented him from continuing to work.
Dean found great joy in spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also rode motorcycles and enjoyed tinkering with cars and go karts.
He was a member at Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Washington.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria, with a funeral service scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the funeral home. Pastor Brad McCormick will officiate. Burial will follow at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
Donations may be made in memory of Foster "Dean" McGrew to support transplant surgery research at the University of Chicago Medicine.
