Frances Ruth Bejarano
12/05/1937 - 11/07/2025
Frances was born in Mitchell, South Dakota to Robert and Frances Grady, the fourth of five children. She was raised on a farm in Ethan, where her early education included being taught by her much older sister Roberta in a one-room school house for 4 out of her 8 years of elementary schooling. From there she went to Notre Dame Academy High School in Mitchell, graduating in the Spring of 1955. Frances decided she would try her hand at nursing and went to St. Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska in the Fall. It was in Omaha that she met her future husband, Dr. Charles A. Bejarano, MD as he attended the Creighton University School of Medicine. They were married in 1957 as Dr. Bejarano was finishing his medical training and the two eventually moved to Miami, Arizona where Bejarano had originated from and called "Home". Miami was where Frances made her life, as a devoted wife and mother to their 10 children. Frances was the quiet but equally strong collaborator in the loving couple who took care of their community, and raised their children to appreciate and respect nature, other people, and God. Frances provided a home filled with plants, animals, music, art, literature, and most importantly, love. While the doctor took care of most everyone in the community, Frances took on the great responsibility of educating, mentoring, and forming the many young minds in her charge. She stood firm in her faith and showed immense patience with her multiple headstrong children as they forged through life, learning and making mistakes along the way; eventually finding their place and purpose in the world. Frances taught her children those things she felt were essential to navigate a world of unknowns, based on the Golden Rule of treating others as you'd like to be treated, and generally to just be good and respectable people. Following the unexpected passing of her husband in 1999, Frances remained busy with her garden, spent much time with her grandchildren, and became more active in the Church, tending the grounds, teaching Catechism classes, starting a Rosary Group, and promoting Pro-Life activities. She did her best to model her faith and teach by example. She succeeded in this, all the way to the end. Mom was homebase for the family. She was who we all came home to. Wherever she was, which was usually in the garden, was considered home. Mom, we will miss you, and may you finally rest in eternal peace.
Frances Bejarano is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles A. Bejarano, her son Anthony J. Bejarano, granddaughter Kori R. Bejarano, and siblings Roberta Martinek, Robert Grady, and Gerald Grady.
She is survived by her brother Danny and her children: Chuck, Joseph (Valerie), Thomas, Teri (Gerard), Regina, Michael (Liz), Christina, John, and Nicholas (Elizabeth); grandchildren: Alexie, Charlie, Zachary, Jacob, Isabelle, Yvette (Chuck), Joseph Jr., Michael, Adam (Joseph), Thomas Jr., Joseph, Lucas (Thomas), Anthony, Ian, Christina Sophia March (Teri), Dakota, Logan Smith (Regina), Shelby, Emma (John), Olivia and Eva (Nicholas); and 4 (almost 5) great grandchildren.
