Frances Mooney Bennett, 99, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Person County on July 9, 1925 to the late Hubert and Addie Chandler Mooney and was the wife of the late Lee Roy “Red” Bennett.
Frances was a longtime member of Grove Park Baptist Church where she served as director and assistant director of the Women’s Missionary Union. Frances was well known as the “pie lady”, she was interviewed by the Burlington Times News and even has her own YouTube video showcasing her baking skills. At every gathering or function, she was going to bring enough pies to make sure everyone was able to enjoy.
She loved all things crafting and would sew clothes for the mission’s team to take to Brazil. She enjoyed her time working at Belk’s as well as her time as a lunch lady at Smith Elementary but her fondest memories were always surrounded by her loving family.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Russell and husband Robert; son, Douglas “Doug” Bennett; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son; Reginald “Reggie” Bennett, parents; sisters; Doris Hall, Louise Saunders, Rachel Newell, Sylvia Oakley, Virginia Moorefield, Nelle Knott, Pauline Clayton and Margaret Burch as well as brothers; Wallace Mooney, Hubert “Buck” Mooney and Frank Mooney.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Marc Sanders. The family will receive friends directly following the service at the funeral home at the fellowship hall at Grove Park Baptist Church.
