Frances Marcella Bierer passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Frances, lovingly known as "Fritzi", lived a life full of love and quiet strength. Born April 26, 1941 to Harry and Anna Goodwin, she was a lifelong member of the Morgantown community. Frances spent her life devoted to her family.
She graduated from University High School and married her husband, Mike, soon after. They were lucky enough to spend 65 years together, the majority of their lives. Frances retired after many years of working at Morgan Shirt Factory to spend more time with her family. Her beloved grandchildren knew her as "Mamaw", while her great grandchildren called her "GiGi".
Frances was deeply proud of her roots and West Virginia heritage. She loved watching the Mountaineers both on TV and in person, even travelling to bowl games. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and various word games, a testament to her sharp wit and determination. Yet above all, her greatest joy and passion was her family.
Frances is survived by her devoted husband Michael W. Bierer, Sr.; her son, Michael W. Bierer, Jr. of Morgantown; daughter, Kellie Brophy (Edward) of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Andrew Bierer (Catherine), Nicholas Bierer (Ashlynn), Ryan Brophy (Haley), Joshua Brophy (Erica), and Kayla Melecio (Cristian); plus, four great-grandchildren, Bryson Melecio, Raegan Brophy, Octavia Brophy and Sophia Bierer. Frances is also survived by her brother, Kenneth "Bo" Goodwin (Rebecca), and her sister, Peg Goodwin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several siblings, including Lee Goodwin, Rich Goodwin, Joseph "Son" Goodwin, Robert Goodwin, Lula Kincaid, Gloria "Doe" Wassick, and Patricia Goodwin
Frances will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her memory lives on in the hearts of all she touched throughout her life.
A private memorial will be held to honor her life.
