Frances Jeneane Gaskin Birdsong, 83, of Shreveport, LA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at her home with her children by her side. Jeneane was born on February 16, 1942, in Shreveport, LA.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with services to follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, in Shreveport. Burial will follow at Forest Park West, 4000 Meriwether Road. Officiating the services will be Rev. Woody Janise.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives by attending birthday parties, cheer competitions, ball games, and school activities. She attended Summer Grove Baptist Church, where she made several friends and was an active member until her health began to fail. She never met a stranger and always made everyone feel welcome in her home.
She enjoyed simple pleasures in life, and one of her favorites was going shopping with her daughters—she could out-shop them both. They would often end their day eating at El Chico’s. She loved her family with her whole heart, and she will be forever missed.
Jeneane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Erwin; her first husband and father of her five children, James C. Gaskin, Sr.; her brothers, William Erwin and Randy Erwin; her second husband, Boyd Birdsong; and her granddaughter, Amy Meshell.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Gaskin, Jr., Steve Gaskin, Sr. and wife Carrie, and Alan Gaskin; her daughters, Sharon Norris and husband Steve, and Pam Penick and husband David; stepdaughter Andrea Birdsong and husband Gary; her brother, Charles Erwin, Jr.; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Linda Brittain for being such a faithful friend and cousin. She was more like a sister than a cousin to their mother. They would also like to express appreciation to Bristol Hospice, especially her nurses Valerrie Jackson and Eva Jones, for their outstanding care and compassion during this difficult time. A special thanks goes to a wonderful friend and neighbor, Bonita Bandaries, for her prayers and love.
