Mrs. Frances A. Capone (née Romano) passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born and raised in
Brooklyn, New York, she was the beloved daughter of the late Maria (née Giorgio) and Biagio Romano. Frances made her home in Staten Island from 1969 until 2020, when she relocated to Mountainside, New Jersey.
Frances devoted more than 30 years of her professional life as an administrative assistant in the library at St. John's University, where she was known for her dedication, reliability, and warm presence. She retired in 2011 after a long and fulfilling career.
She was the cherished wife for nearly 60 years of the late Daniel Capone, with whom she built a life rooted in love, family, and tradition. A devoted mother of four children, Frances is survived by her children: Maria Bamundo and her husband Jeffrey of
Berkeley Heights, NJ, Daniel Capone of Old Bridge, NJ, Diane DiBella and her husband Louis of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Vincent Capone and his wife Danielle of
Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Frances was a proud and loving grandmother to Paul, and his fiancée, Irene, Danielle and her husband Anthony, Michael and his wife Natalie, Marissa, Natalie, Andrew, and his fiancée, Lindsey, Jennifer, Louis, Christina, Ava, Vincent, and Daniel, and a treasured great-grandmother to Maria and Giovanni. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Helen Romano.
Known for her deep love of family, Frances valued togetherness and honored traditions that brought generations together. She loved her tenure at St. John's University and especially cherished the time while her children were students on campus. Frances was a longtime member of the Sons of Italy of Staten Island, an organization that reflected her pride in heritage and community.
Frances will be remembered for her warmth, devotion, and the strong family bonds she nurtured throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave.,
Berkeley Heights, NJ on Wednesday, January 28th from 4 – 8 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 29th, at 10 AM at Little Flower Church, 310 Plainfield Ave., Berkeley Hts., NJ followed by the entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
