Frances Carpenter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 23, 2026.
Frances Jones Carpenter, in her final month, kept telling her family she was ready to go to her forever home. Their response, jokingly, was that God and Granddaddy aren't ready for you, and they wanted us to suffer a little bit longer. She would smile and laugh a little each time, and say, "Y'all just won't do."

On January 23, 2026, God decided it was time. Frances Jones Carpenter of Senoia died at the age of 94 at Southland Health & Rehabilitation. She was born Jan 4, 1932, in Turin Ga to the late John R Jones and Mattie Lou Beckon Jones and was the last of 16 children.

Frances was a faithful member of Hogansville Church of Christ. She was a devoted Christian woman who lived her life following God's word. She read her Bible daily, could quote scripture, and even gave her family a sermon or two when they needed it. She enjoyed baking and is known for her pecan pies, divinity, fudge, and cakes, but really enjoyed bossing people around the kitchen when they tried to help. In 1984 she became a minister's wife. Her beloved husband and she would visit the shut-ins and take her famous baked goods to them. In between visiting they would travel to Gatlinburg every chance they got. You could find Frances in her spare time watching her game shows Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal along with Braves baseball and Auburn football and in the past several years she added Tennessee football in the mix.

She will be remembered by her loving heart, warm smile and the lessons she taught others.

Frances was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. She set the example of how to be a Christian woman, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Bradley (David) and Robin Couch, and her grandchildren, Nichole Bradley, April Payne (Chip), Allan Bradley, and Ashley Janson (James), and her great-grandchildren, Brantley, Autumn, Timothy, Jacob, Chelsie, Elijah, and Archer. She is preceded in death by her husband Mansel Carpenter, her son Pete Horne, and son in law Barry Couch.

Visitation will be held at Mckoon Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM in the chapel, followed by graveside in Senoia. Pallbearers are grandsons Allan Bradley, Chip Payne and James Janson along with great grandsons Timothy and Jacob Bradley and Elijah and Archer Janson and nephew Jimmy Jones. Officiated by Brad Crider, Mark Jones and Jason Thompson.

Robin, I'm so sorry to hear of your Mama's passing. I'm sure God is showering his love and support down on you. And I'm sure Pete was thrilled to have his Mama back with him.
In case you are wondering, I know you from the bank. You knew my parents from Synovus, too. Alice Mask Coggin
