Mrs. Frances “Guynelle” Hart McElroy, 91, of Hull, GA, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of the late Giles A. (Guy) & Hilda Thompson Hart. She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Rufus” McElroy, a sister, Betty Linkhart, of Katy, TX, a daughter, Terri Peck Morgan, son-in-law Rick Morgan, daughter-in-law Patricia Peck, and son Ricky McElroy.
Guynelle retired with more than 20 years of service from UGA’s Main Library in the Business Office. She loved to cook and owned MANY cookbooks and collected lots of recipes, beginning with her first cookbook she bought in her teens from A&P Grocery where she worked. Guynelle also catered wedding receptions, especially for relatives.
She is survived by her children, Max Peck and wife Lynn, of Hull, son Chris Peck and wife Anita, of Colbert, son Mike McElroy and wife Diane, of Hull, and daughter Linda Birt and husband Stoney, of Bogart. She is also survived by her brother Jimmy “Butch” Hart and wife Hazel, of Danielsville, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was MeMa to Leandra (Kyle)Roberts, Audrey Peck, Seth Peck, Callie (Devin) Collins, Christie (Brian) Haynes, Danielle (Jacob) Denison, Stone (Chelsey) Birt, Michael (Daylin) McElroy, LaVelle (TJ) Parten, Renee King, and Sarah (Taylor) Smith, as well as 17 great grandchildren. The family appreciates the care of Angela Blackwell and the late Kebra Brown.
Family will receive visitors at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, on Friday evening, November 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 am, at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Hwy, Athens. Pastor Dennis Nix will officiate.
