On the evening of Monday, January 24, 2022 at the age of 87 Frances Tamie Hatakeyama, of Lake Worth, Florida passed quietly in her sleep and sought the comfort and solace of her beloved "babe," husband Jim. Fran's large and generous heart finally gave out after being bedridden for the past year when Covid struck her with all its complications. A loving Mother to sons Kyle and Jason, Fran left behind fond memories and an inspiring outlook on life.
As a first grader growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, she witnessed the drone of airplanes headed to Pearl Harbor and Schofield Barracks on December 7, 1941. She was the youngest child of a Buddhist minister and seamstress' family and first to be enrolled in college having been accepted to the University of Colorado, Boulder where she sought an Occupational Therapist degree. In 1954 Fran married Jim, who she met at CU, and moved to Chicago where she worked ten years as an office supervisor and started a family. Through the years Fran made many dear friends in Florissant, MO, St. Charles, MO, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Twinsburg, OH, and finally Lake Worth, FL.
Fran had a knack for making people feel special. It was a gift she lovingly bestowed on family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers.
Born into a family of seven siblings, Fran is survived by sisters May Kawasaki and Thelma Miya, sons Kyle (Kathy) Hatakeyama and Jason (Linda) Hatakeyama, grandsons Ryan, Daniel, and Jacob, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Due to the restrictions of COVID a Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined. In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated at A Cremation Service for the Palm Beaches, (561) 734-7409. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her honor to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

I think of Fran as someone who succeeded in leaving the world better than she found it. Through her vocation, and through her wonderful sons and grandsons. My deepest condolences to the family. I will always remember Fran.
