Our beautiful, vivacious mother, Frances Ellen Thompson Hendrix, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 17, 2025.

Frances was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on November 4, 1934. She was the adopted daughter and only child of Frank Eugene Thompson and Mylissia Ellen Thompson of Water Valley, Mississippi.

While working at the University of Tennessee Memphis Cancer Research Center, Frances met the love of her life, Dr. William B. Hendrix (Bill), who was then a dental student. They were married on June 12, 1954, and shared a joyful life of nearly seven decades together. Dr. Hendrix preceded Frances in death, and we take comfort in knowing they are now reunited in the presence of the Lord.

Growing up an only child, Frances dreamed of having a large family - and that dream was joyfully fulfilled. She and Bill raised five children and built a family legacy that includes nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Frances was a devoted mother who found deep purpose and happiness in caring for and supporting her family. She was active in her children's lives, their schools, and her community.

Frances had an extraordinary zest for life. She lived with joy, purpose, and generosity, always encouraging others and offering her time and talents. She had a gift for organization and planning, taking a leading role in numerous community and civic initiatives. Frances was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church for over 50 years, as well as a member of the Steve Chaney Sunday School class.

A 30-year breast cancer survivor, Frances faced her battle with grace, courage, and unwavering faith. Her journey was a time of deep spiritual growth - to God be the glory.

Frances's community involvement and accomplishments include: serving in the Ladies Auxiliary of the 3rd District Dental Society in every office, including Dental Health Chairman, President, Secretary, and Treasurer; held leadership positions in the Alpine Crest Elementary PTA, Red Bank Junior High School, and Red Bank High School; including chairing the Social Committee for the Hamilton County Board of Education; serving on the YMCA Board of Directors; receiving the Red Bank High School Parent Spirit Award; and founding and directing the Red Bank Elementary Cubs Wrestling Program for 15 years.

Frances was an avid reader, a devoted sports fan, and a warm, outgoing presence in every room. Whether she was cheering from the stands or chatting with a friend at the grocery store, she had a unique way of making people feel seen and loved. She was a true social butterfly with a kind and generous spirit.

Frances is survived by her five children: William B. Hendrix Jr. "Bill" (and wife Cyndy), Mylissa Stout (and her husband Stan), Steven Hendrix (and his wife Linda), Michael Hendrix, and Cindy Barclay (and her husband Reed). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Marjorie Hendrix, Michelle Hendrix Glover, William Stout, Charlie Stout (and his wife Brandy), Chris Hendrix (and his wife Jess), Gabrielle "Gaby" Leuck (and her husband Anthony), Rachael Hendrix, Joshua Barclay, and Matthew Barclay. Her legacy continues through five beloved great-grandchildren.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and Janice Walker of Guiding Grace Personal Care Home for their exceptional and loving care of our mother.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." - James 1:2–4

A visitation and service to celebrate Frances's life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home, located at 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
