It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Frances Anderson Hester (1947–2025), who died peacefully at her home at the age of 78. Frances was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, among many other things. In all she did, she sought to make others laugh and enjoy life. There was never a dull moment around Frances. She truly valued life and lived it to the absolute fullest!
Frances grew up in Beulah, North Carolina, but later moved to Winston-Salem, where she worked at St. Andrew’s Daycare as a preschool teacher for over 30 years. She had a passion for education, and her vibrant personality ensured there was never a dull moment in the classroom. Affectionately known as “Fragoo” to most of her students, she made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Frances was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, where she served in many volunteer roles. She is preceded by her husband David Hester, and parents Viola and Howard Anderson. She is survived by her son, Donald Johnson (Robin); grandson, Jackson Johnson; sister, Pamela Cockerham; brother, James Anderson (Margaret); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 11th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 357 Old Hollow Rd Winston-Salem, NC 27105, beginning at 2pm. In accordance with Frances’s wishes, please do not send flowers, but instead consider donating to a charity or church of your choice, go out to eat, hear pretty music, or dance, have fun! In her own words, Frances’s request was to “put the fun in funeral.” Please join us in taking a moment to remember the extraordinary life she lived and the joy she brought to so many.
