Frances Chudej Hosek passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 95 on August 23, 2024. She was born in Ennis, Texas on November 16, 1928 to Julius and Mary Chudej.
Frances attended school in Terrell, Texas. After high school, she lived with and worked for a couple from Dallas. On weekends, she and her best friend, Martha, went dancing. Martha's cousin, Edward, was enlisting in the U.S. Army when she asked Frances to write to him. The rest of the story is history! Frances and Edward were married on October 10, 1953. They were happily married for 67 years.
Frances and Edward lived in Dallas for a short time before returning to Edward's family farm in Three Oaks. Together, they built Hosek's Egg Farm. She worked alongside Edward on the egg farm for 40 years while also taking care of the household and raising their 6 children: Gerry, Nancy, Carl, Glenn, Kenneth, and Rose.
Frances enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking. She always had a sweet treat ready when the kids came home from school. That tradition remains in the Hosek family today. Everyone knows that desserts will be served midafternoon. No one leaves before then.
Frances and Edward worked hard, but always found time to go dancing or visit friends to play dominoes or cards. They traveled all over South Texas and beyond to go dancing and made many long-lasting friendships along the way. Listening to Polka music was one of their favorite pastimes.
Frances was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Poth where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was a lifetime member of the Poth VFW Auxiliary Post 8555.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Julius and Mary Chudej; brothers John, Joe, and Jerry Chudej; and, sister, Rosalea Chudej Noska.
She is survived by her children: Gerry (LeAnn), Nancy, Carl (Peggy), Glenn (Pam Parish), Kenneth (Carol) Hosek, and Rose (Gordon) Labus. Her grandchildren: Jonathan Hosek (Elizabeth), Justin Hosek (Kristina), Jerilee Laughlin (Gary), Jordan Hosek (Tracy), Harmony Doege (Terry), Matthew Hosek & fiancée Chelsea Doege, Haley Labus (Brent Butler), Kaitlin Labus, Jared Labus & fiancée Meagan Dinh, Jerrek Hosek (Kathleen Vogt), and Erynn Hosek & fiancé Garrison Moczygemba. Her great grandchildren: Kylie, Trentyn, Kaleb, Kamryn, Teagyn, Tildyn, Tinley, Taylin, Troit, and Terik Hosek; Drake Laughlin; Morgan and Renee Doege. Sisters-in-law Mary Rose Pell and Frances Chudej; numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, in Poth Texas. A rosary will be recited there beginning at 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow the services at Blessed Sacrament Mausoleum, in Poth, Texas. Frances's family would like to invite all guests to join us for a lunch reception at the Parish Hall immediately following the graveside service.
Pallbearers are her grandsons: Jonathan, Justin, Jordan, Matthew and Jerrek Hosek, and Jared Labus. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Pawelek and Roger Schneider.
The family would like to thank Sandra Talley, her caretaker for the last year, for her kindness and compassionate care.
The family also appreciates the loving care provided to Frances during her final days by Cherie, Marisol, and Bryan from Trinity Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Three Oaks Volunteer Fire Department or the Poth VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post 8555. Donations may be mailed to Nancy Hosek at 7677 FM 1344 Floresville, TX 78114.
