Frances Kosler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral Home – Greenfield on Mar. 7, 2026.
Frances E. Kosler, 77, of Hales Corners, Wisconsin passed away on March 5, 2026
at the Aurora Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Fran was born on
April 2, 1948 in Boston Massachusetts to Ralph and Catherine Kotas.
Fran grew up in Milwaukee after the family resettled in Milwaukee in 1956,
attended Pulaski High School and graduated in 1966. During the early 1970's, Fran
worked as a reporter for The Bugle American, authoring numerous music and
concert reviews and interviews with notable figures including musician Jackson
Browne, the infamous gonzo journalist Dr. Hunter S. Thompson and Elliot
Richardson after he resigned from President Nixon's cabinet as US Attorney
General in 1973. Later, she worked in health care, first as a health unit coordinator
at Columbia Hospital and then at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay and later at Mount
Sinai Hospital and then finally the Pathology Department at Froedert and Medical
College of Wisconsin where she helped set-up their first IT system. After retiring in
2006, she spent time cruising, enjoying the outdoors in Door County and visiting
New Orleans. Fran was an accomplished cook, an avid reader and enjoyed
watching and critiquing movies (especially bad ones).
Fran is survived by her sisters Barbara Nolan, Patricia Kotas, Mary Wallace,
husband Karl Kosler, stepfather Michael Brackett and her beloved cats Tommy and
Jimmy. Fran is preceded by her parents and sister Monica.

Visitation Friday at 12 noon-2PM, Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 South 84th Street, Greenfield, WI, 53228.
Lunch to follow at Meyer's Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Aurora
Zilber Family Hospice would be appreciated.
