Frances (Untereiner) Quakenbush, of Hoxie, KS, passed away on October 29, 2023, at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, at the age of 96. She was born on November 11, 1926, in Rural Sheridan County to Joseph and Elizabeth (Munsch) Untereiner. She married Floyd Quakenbush on February 24, 1955, in Colby, KS. They were blessed with one son, Edward.
Frances grew up in Sheridan County through 8th Grade. Her family moved to Arkansas, and she helped her parents. She met and married Floyd and moved to Colby, KS where she was a homemaker and raised their son. They moved to Missouri in 1958. Floyd died in 1979 and she moved to Louisiana in 1988, and back to Hoxie in 2006. Frances enjoyed cooking, doing crossword puzzles, and loved being around her family.
She is survived by her son, Edward Quakenbush of Hoxie.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Floyd; parents, Joseph and Elizabeth; brother, Paul Untereiner; sisters, Clara Tubbs, Cicelia Ottley, Rose Barr, Josephine Jordon, Edna Camden, and infant sister, Anna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:30AM at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Park, KS. Visitation will be Thursday, 3PM until 7PM with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 5:30PM at the funeral home in Hoxie.
Memorials are suggested to Sheridan Co LTC or Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home to help pay for funeral expenses and may be sent to Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, PO Box 987, Hoxie, KS 67740.
