Frances, affectionately known as Fran, was born on January 2, 1952 and died on November 11, 2024. She was 72 years of age.
Fran grew up on a 40-acre farm in Phoenix, Md. where she and siblings enjoyed riding ponies and horses throughout the countryside. Fran took on the main job of feeding the chickens, ponies, horses, dogs and cats. She loved animals and in her later years always had two or three cats in her home. It wouldn't be unusual to see Fran wearing a cat sweatshirt or during Christmas wearing a cat sweater with bright colored bulbs blinking on and off.
Her church, Greater Grace, was very important to her and it helped her meet life's challenges as there were many. Fran had been taking bible classes for several years and was hoping to teach the bible once she finished her course work. She enjoyed socializing so she attended her local senior center working on stained glass gifts for friends and family.
Fran attended the Bryn Mawr School for Girls, Baltimore, Md. She was one of the first women to attend Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. Her major was classics. After two years, she transferred to Goucher College in Towson, Md. where she received her B.A. She was an excellent student and wanted to further her education by attending the Catonsville Community College nursing program where she received an RN.
She worked in several nursing facilities, but Future Care Northpoint, Baltimore Md. was where she worked the longest. Her career as a nurse totaled more than 40 years of service. When asked when she was considering retirement, her answer was, "I will be working as a nurse as long as I can."
Fran married Toivo (Tony) Roomets in 1991. They established a home in Parkville, Md. and shortly thereafter adopted a three-and-a-half-year-old son from Moscow. His name is Gennadi (Genna).
Fran is pre-deceased by her mother, Patricia Coles Dixon, and her father, William Thomas Dixon and her sister Sarah "Sally" Dixon Isaacs. She leaves behind her husband, Tony Roomets, her son, Genna Roomets; two sisters: Natalie Dixon McCeney of Timonium, Md. and Patricia Dixon Siegel (Ron Siegel) from Cle Elum, Wa.; a brother, William Dixon (Callie Neylan) from Seattle, WA; her three nieces; Katelin Isaacs, Sarah Isaacs Shelfer, and Mary McCeney Nelson; her nephews, James Dixon McCeney and William James Isaacs; and her four great nieces and five great nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, MD on December 8, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.
In Fran's memory, we ask that you send your contribution to the Maryland SPCA.

With Heartfelt Sympathy to our entire family on both sides. We have known Fran for a very long time. She was unique, straight forward and she loved her family very much, including the kitties. She will be missed. Til we meet again... Love, Renee & Karl

I have such lovely, warm memories of Fran from our many years together at the Bryn Mawr School. Fran was a beautiful, kind and gentle person and she will be missed by all of her old friends. I send my sympathies to her family and friends. Mark Allen Hoffberger, BMS `70
