Frances Roquemore Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 7, 2025.
Frances Ann "Kim" (Kimber) Roquemore, 89, of Yakima, WA, passed away on November 5, 2025. She was born in Wray, CO, on October 25, 1936, to Clifford Sheldon Kimber and Ella Mae (Wakefield) Kimber.
Kim graduated from Brighton High School in Brighton, CO (Go Bulldogs!) in 1955, and received a certification in Nutrition from the University of Colorado – Boulder circa 1985. She loved food and sharing her creations with family and friends, so it was perfect she certified in something she loved so much.
The most important things to Kim were her family, friends, and her testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She met Elwyn Lowell "Rocky" Roquemore (1934-1990) at a young adult activity in Los Angeles, CA, in 1957, while he was stationed at the US Marine Corps military base there. They married on June 29, 1957. Their first son came quickly in 1958 followed by a daughter in 1959. During that time, Rocky was stationed overseas when missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) knocked on Kim's door. What they shared touched her deeply and she felt strongly this was the church she and Rocky had been looking for. She wrote Dad and expressed her joyful find, asking him to investigate the church and learn for himself. Dad did and was baptized before mom, who followed him in baptism in 1960. Following this commitment, they had three more children and were sealed as an eternal family in the LDS Manti Temple in Manti, UT, on April 12, 1975.
The family moved to Brighton, CO, when Rocky retired from the military. Brighton became the family home for the next 45 years. During that time, Kim served many callings in the LDS Church, making life-long friends in the process; she was a second Mother to many of her children's friends. Her callings included leading women as Relief Society President, blessing children as Primary President, and guiding youth as Young Women President. What she loved the most, though, was being a Visiting Teacher, showing Christlike love to all she served. She also used her talents to bake delicious goodies for anyone and everyone she loved, which caused much distress to her children because the goodies were "not for you, but for my sisters".
In 1997, Kim served an 18-month Family History Mission for the church. Her mission started in New Jersey, finishing in Iowa. During this time, her love of family history deepened. Some of her ancestors came from Iowa and she was able to find many family members.
Kim often told her children, whom she loved, that she became a mother in order to be a grandmother. That wish became a reality before her mission and propagated over the next four decades. She was the grandmother of 18 (including spouses it increases to 25) and a great-grandmother of more than 40, and still counting.
Until she could no longer walk to the front of the chapel, Kim bore her testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ every month during Sunday fast and testimony meetings. Her descendants and members of the church have commented on how their hearts were touched by testimony and they were influenced by her love of Jesus Christ.
In her final years, Kim's health declined making it necessary to have 24/7 care. At that time, she courageously and with great dignity, bore multiple health issues which culminated in her passing. During her final days, though diagnosed with dementia, Kim's sweet personality would peek through and bless all those around her. Many have shared how her smile brightened a room. She left pearls of wisdom that will affect generations.
Kim is preceded in death by her husband (Rocky Roquemore), her youngest son (Jared Roquemore), her parents (Clifford and Ella Kimber), two grandchildren (Sean Byers and Bailey Stutz), and three brothers (Jack Kimber, Keith Kimber, and Frank Kimber). She is survived by her children David and Deb Roquemore of Dugway, Utah; Gerald and Carri (Roquemore) Byers of Yakima, WA; Brian and Sue Roquemore of Houston, TX; Anne Roquemore of Yakima, WA; and Heather Roquemore of Cheyenne, WY. Also, two brothers, Jerry Kimber (and his wife, Sue) and Dennis Kimber (and his much beloved dog, Tucker), both of California.
We believe families are forever and though Mom is not with us physically, we know she still lives. With gratitude for the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we will see her again and enjoy our connection with her and our family for eternity.
Memorial services for Frances "Kim" Roquemore will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 105 S Hillcrest Dr, Yakima, WA, on Tuesday November 11, 2025, at 11am. Her funeral services and internment will be held at Olinger Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery – Highland, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO, November 14, 2025, at 2pm.
