Frances Schmidt

Frances "Franny" Anne Schmidt (Noell) born January 5, 1939, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on August 27, 2024.
Franny was born and raised in Wilmington, DE where she attended Mount Pleasant High School and was in the graduating Class of 1957.
She started her career working for DuPont until she married and started her family where she became a stay at home mom and eventually would work in the family plumbing and heating business. After raising her 4 children, she worked various jobs before she began working as a Page in the State of Delaware House of Representatives where she continued for 20 years before ultimately retiring as Head page her final year.
Franny was a lifelong, honorary member of the Delaware Saengerbund as well as a member of the Delaware Saengerbund Singers from a young age to adulthood. She was a person who loved nature, especially plants, flowers and birds. She loved to sing, dance and also played the accordion. Franny especially loved family time which included family camping trips, fishing, family picnics, and annual apple picking outings. Most importantly, Franny loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father William Noell, Sr.; her mother and stepfather, Ernestine Noell Robinson and Pierce Robinson; her husband, Karl Heinz Schmidt of 61 years; her brother, William Noell, Jr. and her sister Elsie Noell Baldwin.
Franny is survived by her beloved children Anna Mroz (Frank), Martha Cahill (Steve), Amy Muller (Bubba), Peter Schmidt (Kathy); and her grandchildren Karly (Brad), Connor, Nicholas, John-Michael, Erinn, Olivia, Emily, Jacob, Lucas, Cammeron, and Minnie. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Mr. Darcy.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. The service will begin at 11:30am. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
