Frances Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home - Tanasbourne on Jan. 15, 2026.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Frances K. Scott, 75. Fran was born August 26, 1950, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewiston, Idaho, to Clarence John Meyer and Dorothy June (Willey) Meyer. She was the third of four children and passed away at her home in Hillsboro, Oregon on January 6, 2026.

Fran grew up in Lewiston, Idaho, and attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Grade School, then went on to high school at St. Gertrude's Academy in Cottonwood, Idaho. She worked in the school cafeteria in the mornings before school at a work-study job to help pay for her room and board. Fran continued her education at Fort Wright College in Spokane, Washington where she majored in Sociology/Psychology and continued to do her work-study in food services. After college she stayed in food services for a couple of years and, in 1976, was offered a mid-management position with Saga at Spokane Falls Community College.

In 1981, Fran transferred to Portland, Oregon, and accepted a position as Director of Food Services at Lewis and Clark College, which was not the job for her. That summer, she moved to a smaller account at Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon where she settled into a house next door to Charlie and Betty Scott. Charlie and Betty soon learned she was single and sent over their youngest son, Ken, to meet her. On Veteran's Day 1982, Ken asked her to marry him and on April 30, 1983, they were married at St. Anthony's Church in Forest Grove, Oregon. That day, she became an instant stepmom to Todd (6 at the time) and by 1986 he was living full-time with them. 1986 also blessed them with their daughter, Jennifer, who was born in October of that year. While continuing her career at Pacific, then in a director position when Marriott bought out Saga, and later as an area manager for Sodexo after it purchased Marriott, Fran still found time to be as active as possible in the kids' school clubs, sports, dance, and she loved every moment of it.

After 48 years in food services, Fran finally retired in 2018. In retirement, Fran kept herself busy with spending time with her grandchildren (Easton and Austin), volunteering (St. Vincent de Paul – Hertel Center, assisting with the food pantry and Days for Girls), working part-time helping expand software for MealTime which provides services for K-12 schools, baking, gardening, and watching her favorite sports teams (Seahawks and Chargers, Beavers and Ducks, and most of all, the Portland Trailblazers).

Throughout her life, Fran's faith was always at the center. She became a Eucharistic Minister on April 1, 1995. In 2001, she began Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesdays and continued this until 2018. She started Adoration again with her "Monday Rosary Group" on Tuesdays in October 2022 and continued until her passing. The group took on parish tasks like cleaning and organizing closets and helping with the re-model of the Adoration Chapel.

In addition to her parents, Fran was proceeded in death by her sister, Victoria J. Clifford, and brothers Michael J. Meyer and Henry W. Meyer.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth A. Scott of Hillsboro, Oregon; her children Todd J. Scott (Melissa) of Gaston, Oregon and Jennifer L. Scott of Hillsboro, Oregon; two grandsons Easton J. Scott and Austin G. Scott, who were the light of her life; half-brother Gerald Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church – 475 SE 3rd Avenue, Hillsboro, OR on Friday, January 30th. Rosary at 10:30 followed by Mass at 11am

The family requests flowers be sent directly to St. Matthew's Catholic Church prior to the service. Please consider making memorial contributions to St. Vincent de Paul or St. Matthew's Catholic School.
