Robert E DeLong

Robert E. DeLong, 82, a resident of the Hillsboro community, passed away peacefully at his home on January 7, 2026.

Born on July 29, 1943, in Seattle, Washington, Robert was the son of Robert and Iris (Rugg) DeLong. He grew up in Edmonds, where he graduated from Edmonds High School with the Class of 1961. He went on to attend Washington State University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1965.

Teaching was Robert's lifelong calling both inside and outside the classroom. Over the years, he inspired students while teaching Earth Science, Math, Industrial Arts, Survival Skills, and enduring lessons about life itself. He retired from teaching in 2006.

Robert cherished his family summers sailing through the San Juan Islands, the freedom of solo rides on his Harley along the backroads of the Pacific Northwest, and fond memories of his Motocross days. A passionate naturalist and carpenter, he took great pride in his work and his love of nature. Above all, Robert treasured time spent with his loving family and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Hien; his children, Elizabeth (Spouse Michael) and Peter (Spouse LeeAnn); his beloved grandchildren; and his brothers, Steve and Dan DeLong.
