Frankfort – Frances Sharfe passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, with Chaplain Dale Adams officiating. A private committal service will be observed at Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. service time on Monday.
Frances was born in Frankfort, KY on June 21, 1932, to the late Michael and Nora Rice. Above all else, she was a bright light and full of love for everyone around her. She embraced her family and friends in a way that will never be forgotten and she was always willing to listen and support those in need with a hug and a smile and a few words of wisdom. She loved to cook for her family and learned to knit later in life. Over the past few years, she has knit literally hundreds of scarves, hats, and head bands to give away to those she loved. Playing Crazy Eights was a favorite pastime she enjoyed with her closest friends at Sayre Christian Village, Elizabeth Miles and Johnnie Vaughan, also known as the three musketeers. Her special friends Ron and Janet Fey, who became like family, regularly took her on outings, which she always looked forward to. She also spent time in Okeechobee where she enjoyed fishing with her husband Marvin and her niece, Mary Ruth Miller, who was really like a sister to her. She worked at the Genesco Shoe Factory for many years and was a member of the Sayre Christian Church. She also "volunteered" at Josephine Sculpture Park by telling everyone she knew that they should go visit while also giving them brochures and event postcards. She loved visiting the park and invited everyone there to celebrate her 90th birthday, which was a great time spent with those she loved.
Frances is survived by her daughter Beverly (Artie) VanHouten and son-in-law Steve Furnish, four grandchildren, Bert (Melissa) VanHouten, Christie Furnish, Melanie (BJ Duvall) VanHouten and Stephanie (Tim) Wilson. In addition, she left behind seven great grandchildren, Abe, Alexis, Carlee, Donnie (Tres), Michael, Zachary, and Zoe, and two great, great grandchildren, Zaria and Zamira. In addition, she left behind several close nieces and nephews her dear friends Patty and Johnny Jordan and Janet and Ron Fey, and her entire extended family at Sayre Christian Village.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Nora Rice, and her brother Buster, as well as her husband Marvin Lee Sharfe and her daughter Debi Furnish, her niece Mary Ruth Miller, and two nephews Paul Rice and Billy Rice.
Pallbearers are Abe VanHouten, Alexis Wilson, Bert VanHouten, Donnie Eubanks III, Gary Sharfe and Zoe Eubanks.
Honorary pallbearers are Carlee VanHouten, Jeff Kays, Johnny Jordan, Michael Wilson, Ollie Sharfe, Tony Kays and Zachary Eubanks.
