Frances I. Snyder, age 87, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Elderwood of Uihlein.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on February 18, 1938, she was the daughter of Edward and Irene (Smith) Lewis. Fran married Hawley R. Snyder on Saturday, April 4, 1959 in Norfolk, NY. He predeceased her on March 4, 2017.

Fran was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and had worked as a Registered Nurse at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake and continued on when it became Adirondack Medical Center for over 25 years. Prior to that she had worked at Medical Associates in Saranac Lake and the Massena Hospital for 10 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 787 St. Bernard, Saranac Lake, NY.

She is survived by two sons Hawley Snyder and his partner Debbie Zerrahn of Saranac Lake and Edward Snyder of Saranac Lake, three daughters Mary Ellen Martin and her husband Patrick Manor of Bloomingdale, Kristine Jermano and her husband Thomas of Bloomingdale, Irene Snyder and her husband Patrick Giblin of Saranac Lake, seven grandchildren Billy Martin and his partner Keri Dempsey, Kyle Martin and his partner Brooke Gallo, Kaitlyn Ploof and her husband Eban, Chase Jermano and his wife Autumn and Tyler Jermano, Ethan Paye and his partner Brynne Gilmore and Ashlyn Snyder, two great grandchildren Madilyn and Gwyneth Ploof and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Edward Lewis.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 31, 2026 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.

Friends wishing to remember Frances I. Snyder may make memorial contributions to St. Bernard’s Church or St. Bernard’s School in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
