Mrs. Frances A. Topping, 91, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. The daughter of Nelson and Henrietta Alls, Frances was born in Catawba, Virginia. She was a resident of Newport News for the past 70 years.
Frances, known as "Mimi" to her family, was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, loyal friend and devoted teacher. Her family, church, and friends were never far from her thoughts. Her life was spent in service to others as a teacher in the Newport News School system for 34 years and as an active member of her church, Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church for over 30 years.
After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her Church family, participating in many plays at church, spending time with her dog, Misty, and spending many happy years with her growing family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James F. Topping and her daughter, Lisa Miles Rudolph. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey F. Topping and his wife, Susan of Virginia Beach, James D. Topping and his wife, Beth of Wilmington, NC and her daughter, Lynn Dunn and her husband, Earl of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Jessica Lilburn, Megan Smith, Taylor Topping, Carly Hurdle, Samuel Massie, Bennet Massie, Hanna Topping and Garrett Topping and her great-grandchildren, Henry and Silas Smith, Miles and Wyatt Lilburn, and Isaac and Elliot Massie.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, 38 Hoopes Rd, Newport News, VA. A Private Graveside Service will be held in Catawba, VA for family.
