Francis J. Killmurray, 90, of Sewaren, (better known as Frank) passed away on February 23, 2025, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born on May 1, 1934, to M. Joseph and Rose E. Killmurray (nee Morris) in Perth Amboy, he lived in Perth Amboy and Woodbridge until his move to Sewaren in 1963.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from June 1957 to June 1959 completing basic training in Fort Cavazos (formerly known as Fort Hood), Texas and was then stationed in Germany. Frank came away from his service with lifelong friends, a hatred for the Texas heat, and a love of German food. He remained in the Army Reserves for six years.
On October 17th, 1959, Frank married his beloved wife, Marilyn, affectionately known as Lynn, (nee Jarvis). Together, they raised three loving sons: Kevin Michael, Christopher John, and Thomas Joseph.
He was a graduate of Rutgers University College where he attended evening classes and earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in Accounting. Frank had a long career in Accounting with the U.S. Treasury's Internal Revenue Service where he was employed as a Senior Field Auditor, retiring after 28 ½ years of service.
Frank valued his Irish heritage and enjoyed celebrating it with others. He was one of the earlier members of the Woodbridge American Irish Association and remained active in that community. He coordinated the pipe bands for the Woodbridge St. Patrick's Day Parade and marched in the first one. Frank served as the Band Chairman for many years and was the Grand Marshal of the Woodbridge St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2000. Frank and Lynn were an integral part of establishing many traditions, one being the Parade Morning Breakfast. Frank was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and was recognized as Hibernian of the Year in 1998.
As a great man of faith, he was an active parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church where he served on many committees and was active in numerous fund raising and charitable events. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Middlesex Council Lodge 857 where he worked on committees for the St. Patrick's Day dinner/dance. He served as the Memorial Day Parade Chairman, Blood Bank Chairman and Youth Activities Chairman for many years.
Frank believed in the power of community and the necessity of helping others. He was part of the Deborah Hospital Foundation, Colonia Chapter where he participated in fundraising. He was a member of the Rutgers Alumni Association; National Treasury Employees Union for over 50 years; National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Association of Retired Persons.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rose Killmurray, and his son, Christopher.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons Kevin (Kathleen) and Thomas (Amy); daughter-in-law Karen; eight grandchildren: Erin Yaney (Alex), Conor, Anna Rose, Bridget, Patrick, Declan, Jomar, and J.D. Killmurray; and three great-grandchildren: Cameron, Wyatt, and Sofia Lynn.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28,2025, from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church in Port Reading. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to the Deborah Hospital Foundation. Frank was the most upstanding gentleman anyone had ever met, and he always had a kind word for when you needed it most. He will be remembered fondly as the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Sláinte to 90 years lived well!
