Kay passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, in Canton.
Francis Kay Herndon was born on March 31, 1937, in Madill, OK, to parents, Harlan Cates Herndon and Flora Qualls Herndon. Kay was raised in Madill and graduated from Madill High School. While visiting her sister Jackie in Denison, TX, Kay met one of Jackie's co-workers, Carl, at the lumberyard where they both worked - a meeting her sister had arranged. The two married in April of 1955 in Madill and first made their home in Sherman, TX. They later lived in Stillwater, OK, while Carl attended college.
After graduation, Carl accepted a job with Magnolia Oil, which soon became Mobil, in Hobbs, NM. The family later moved to Mesquite, TX, in the late 1950s. Kay devoted herself to caring for her family and others, creating a warm and loving home wherever they lived. In 1975, she and Carl settled in Edgewood, where they made their forever home and became longtime members of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Flora Herndon; sons, Jeffrey Keith Lafoy and Joel David Lafoy; and sisters, Jackie Herndon and Patsy Fay Vick.
Kay is survived by her loving Husband: Carl Lafoy of Edgewood, TX; Son: Cory Lafoy of Edgewood, TX; Grandchildren: Jessica Kay Colgrove, Travis Leon LaFoy, James Derek LaFoy, Vanessa Renee LaFoy, Cassi Jo LaFoy, Christopher Allan LaFoy
