Francis "Frank" Xavier Waldo, 88, of Marion, formerly of Toledo, passed away peacefully in his sleep the afternoon of Friday, May 3, 2024. Born March 12, 1936 in New Orleans, he was the son of Harry and Louise (Lapeyre) Waldo of New Orleans. On August 8, 1959 he married Patricia "Pat" (Yelinek) Felter in Gesu Catholic Church in Detroit. She preceded him in death in 2016.
Frank is survived by four children, Ed (Karen) Waldo of La Rue; Teri (Tom) Titus of Marion; Dan (Brenda) Waldo of Pooler GA; and Annette Cooper of Charleston SC; sixteen grandchildren, Kenny Confer, Kevin Confer, Kevin Waldo, James Waldo, Karen Morehouse, Lauren Waldo, Don Waldo, Anne Picklesimer, Robert Waldo, Dani Myers, Renee Cooper, Rachel Salter, Kevin Cooper, Ben Waldo, Luke Waldo and Grace Waldo; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Harriet and Martha; and three brothers, Harry, John and Martial.
Frank was a dedicated and focused husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. A graduate of Jesuit High School of New Orleans, the University of Detroit (B.S.) and the University of Texas (M.S.), he pursued an education in Civil Engineering. An avid Boy Scout in his youth, he was deeply impressed with the importance of clean drinking water, and devoted his career to designing municipal wastewater treatment plants around Ohio and Michigan. Passionate about Scouting, Catholic schools and water sports, Frank served as Cubmaster of St Mary Pack 50, on the School Board for St Mary/Marion Catholic schools, and was slalom water skiing as late as age 73. An active and devout member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Toledo and St Mary Catholic Church in Marion, Frank saw to it that his children received the benefits of a Catholic education through high school graduation. Those who are left to miss him can only hope to live their lives half as well and as faithfully, eventually to join him in our eternal and perfect home.
