Francis L Wurst
April 28, 1931 – January 31, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Francis (Fran) Wurst, 93, who peacefully took his final rest on January 31, 2025, in Gig Harbor, Washington, surrounded by his loving family.
Fran was born on April 28, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, and lived a life full of love, kindness, and quiet strength. A devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a source of wisdom. Fran's presence was a steady and constant source of inspiration.
After a 30-year career as a broadcast engineer at ABC, he retired in 1989. Alongside his beloved wife Mary, they moved to Satellite Beach, Florida. After Mary's passing in 1991, Fran remained in Satellite Beach for over three decades.
Fran was known for his remarkable storytelling, sharp wit, and incredible recall of even the smallest details. He could bring any moment from his past to life, painting vivid pictures with his words. His deep interest about the world and desire for sharing knowledge made every conversation with him fascinating and unforgettable.
After a recent fall in the summer of 2024, he moved in with his daughter, Kathleen (Kay) McCann, to focus on recovery, where he was surrounded by love, care, and the laughter of family. Although his time was brief, he approached this last phase of his life with dignity, gratitude, and the unwavering resilience that shaped his life.
He is survived by his loving children, Joseph Wurst (Marita), Kathleen (Nicholas) McCann, Robert (Sharon) Wurst, and Edward (Mary) Wurst, along with 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Christina, Nicholas, Carolyn, Skyler, Brenda, Branden, Meghan, Zachary, Morgan and Jarad. And two great-grandchildren, Lane and Hank.
He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, and other cherished friends and family members who passed before him.
Though he is no longer with us in person, his love, stories and his occasional smile, will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
