Frank Benic, Jr., 84, of Hermitage, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 28, 2025, in St. John XXIII Home.
Mr. Benic was born on November 5, 1940, in Sharon, a son of the late Frank Benic, Sr. and Mildred (Hodge) Benic Leslie, and attended West Middlesex High School.
Following high school, he owned and operated the former Frank's Sunoco Service Station on East State St., Hermitage. Later, Frank worked as a service manager for McCandless Ford, Mercer, PA, the former Sharon Ford, and the former Snyder's Pontiac, Mercer, retiring in 1998.
In addition to his daytime job at the dealership, Frank's life revolved around cars and racing. He was the manager of Sharon Speedway for more than 17 years and Mercer Raceway for 18 years. Prior to managing the tracks, he co-owned a race team and had sprint cars. For his years involved with racing, he was a two-time inductee to the Twin State Auto Racing Club Hall of Fame, one for Owner/Operator and the other for Car Owner/Mechanic.
Frank was a member of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage.
His wife of 60 years, the former Marilyn Lane, whom he married on June 16, 1962, passed away on June 6, 2023.
He is survived by three sons, Scott Benic and his wife Dana, Greentown, IN, Michael Benic and his wife Danielle, Hermitage, and Bradley Benic and his wife Deana, Sioux City, IA; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Bryce, Shelby, Lexi, Jonah, Logan and Tiffany; and many great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation, at www.ryanblaneyfamilyfoundation.org
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday (01/31/2025) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Drew Bell, officiating.
Interment: Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
