Frank A. Darney, Jr.
May 18, 1924 – June 2, 2023
At the venerable age of 99, Frank A. Darney, Jr., peacefully passed away in his sleep on June 2, 2023. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Frank A. Darney, Sr., and Teresa Cornelia Sachs Darney. He was predeceased by his parents and his dear brother, Kenneth A. Darney, Sr.
Frank attended Brehms Lane Elementary School, Hamilton Junior High School, and City College. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. Following his service in World War II, he became a member of the 104th Tactical Fighter Squadron and later the 175th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Maryland Air National Guard. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant with forty-one years of military service. He was a proud veteran and loved his country.
After the military, he began his next career as a life insurance agent for Lutheran Brotherhood (Thrivent) Insurance. Frank enjoyed meeting and talking to people and felt that, in this capacity, he would be able to help people prepare for the ups and downs of life.
When he retired from his second career, he took a job as a maintenance man in an office building because he enjoyed working and fixing things! In the mid 2000's, after the death of his second wife, he sold his house and moved to Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. It was a new adventure!
Throughout his life he was a man of many interests. Wherever he lived, he always had a garden, enjoyed fixing and restoring cars and World War II aircraft, collected stamps, and was the keeper of our family genealogy. He was quick to laugh and was often caught whistling around the house! He was a member of the Buick Club of Maryland, The Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum, the American Legion, and a local radio club. He loved music, especially John Phillip Sousa marches, enjoyed going to parades, and spending time with his family.
Frank was a faithful Christian. He regularly attended church and volunteered on many committees and in many capacities at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and at Trinity Lutheran Church in Codorus, Pennsylvania.
His greatest joy was his family. In life, he was predeceased by his loving wives, Betty Louise Stevens Darney (died 1976) and Joyce Constance Moersdorf Darney (died 2001).
The devoted father of Marcia Ann Darney, Janet Louise Dicke, Abigail Elizabetha Dany, Kenneth Paul Darney (wife, Carol), Richard Arthur Darney (fiance, Janet Portner), and stepfather of Kathleen Moersdorf Coulson (husband, Gregory). He was predeceased by another stepdaughter, Deborah Moersdorf Cunfer.
The loving grandfather, "Pop-Pop", of Angela Miller, Amy Williams (husband, James), Richard Darney, Jr., Robert Darney, Sean Darney, Samantha Darney, Emily Darney, and Olivia Coulson.
The beloved great-grandfather of Soren, Sloane, Carter, and Levi. In addition, he was blessed to have many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was the best example of the "Greatest Generation" and a good and godly man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
