Frank DeSmith Sr., born on October 19, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on February 21, 2025, in Mishawaka, Indiana. A man of integrity, kindness, and a deep love for his family, Frank's life was one of honorable service and simple joys.
Frank was preceded in death by his caring parents, Fred DeSmith and JoAnn (Marino) DeSmith. A cherished father, he is survived by his sons, Frank DeSmith Jr. and his wife Jenni-Lee, Daniel DeSmith and his wife Deborah, and James DeSmith and his wife Mable. His legacy of wisdom and laughter lives on through them and his Grandchildren; Jordan Youngman, Nathan Desmith, Tobias DeSmith, Skyler DeSmith, and London DeSmith.
He shared a special bond with his ex-wife, Lori Bloodgood, maintaining a friendship built on mutual respect and shared history. His brothers, Ron DeSmith and his wife Judy, Paul DeSmith and his wife Sara, and Ray DeSmith and his wife Zameena, will remember Frank for his unwavering support and brotherly love.
Frank proudly served in the Navy, which instilled in him a lifelong sense of pride and duty. He later built a career as a skilled diesel mechanic, bringing the same dedication and excellence to his work as he did his service.
He was a man of many passions; Frank delighted in working on anything with a motor, with a particular fondness for trains. His free time was often spent with a game controller in hand, enjoying his Xbox, or lost in the Western worlds of John Wayne. Frank's love for music was expressed through the sounds of old records, and his heart was most content by the water, fishing rod in hand.
Above all, Frank was an exceptional grandfather whose greatest joy was his grandchildren. His stories, laughter, and love of life will echo through generations. Frank DeSmith Sr. leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, devotion to family, and the honor of a life well-lived. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, In Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th st. Military honors will be performed at 7:00 PM in the Funeral Home.
