Frank C. Gilbert

Frank C. Gilbert, 81, of Lewistown, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born on August 29, 1943, in Lewistown, Frank was the son of the late Charles and Josephine (Miller) Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Boyer. Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley (Cherry) Gilbert, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, his son, Timothy Gilbert and wife Amy of Lewistown, and his daughter, Tina Rittenhouse and husband Keith of McVeytown. He was a beloved grandfather to Rylie Shoemaker and husband Cade, Joshua Rittenhouse and wife Kristin, and Hanna and Halle Rittenhouse, and a cherished great-grandfather to Lily Rittenhouse. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Gilbert and wife Donna of Abbottstown. A proud 1961 graduate of Chief Logan High School, Frank went on to serve his country with honor and courage in the United States Army. As a Medical Airborne Specialist, he completed two tours in Vietnam, exemplifying dedication and selflessness. Following his military service, Frank was employed at Standard Steel for 41 ½ years, retiring in 2005. Faith was the cornerstone of Frank's life. A devoted member of Lewistown Alliance Church, he served as an elder, board member, and sunday school teacher, touching countless lives with his kindness and wisdom. He was also a past member of Bixler Gap Hunting Camp and the Vietnam Veterans Chapter #791. Frank found joy in woodworking, restoring cars alongside his son, and cheering for Penn State football, where he was a longtime usher at Beaver Stadium. Above all, his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Lewistown Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave, Lewistown, with Pastors Bill Miller and John Looney officiating. A viewing will take place at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private Interment will follow at Juniata Memorial Park Arrangements have been entrusted to King Funeral Home and Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville.
