Frank W. Johnson Jr., age 92, beloved husband of Sheila A. (Crichton) Johnson for 57 years, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at The Oaks in New Bedford, following a long and courageous journey with declining health. Born in Somerville, MA, on April 3, 1933, he was the cherished son of the late Frank W. Johnson Sr. and Lillian (Anderson) Johnson.
A dedicated educator, Frank graduated from Wilbraham Academy and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in Vermont, followed by a Master's degree from Simmons College in Boston. A resident of Lakeville since 1972, Frank made a profound impact on the lives of his students as a biology professor at Tabor Academy in Marion, Chadwick Academy in California, and Massasoit Community College.
Frank proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955, achieving the rank of Private First Class. He was also a former member of the Vega Club in Brockton. An enthusiastic adventurer, Frank found joy in fishing, sailing, skiing (both downhill and cross country), and camping. His culinary skills were beloved by family and friends, particularly his renowned breakfast dishes and delicious fish chowder, which he shared at the annual Fourth of July parties.
In addition to his devoted wife Sheila, Frank is survived by his two sons, William Johnson and his wife Lesa of Lakeville, and Daryl Johnson of Rhode Island, as well as his treasured grandchildren, Sarah and Zachary Johnson of Lakeville. He also leaves behind his brother Alan Johnson of Falmouth, niece Lynn Madigan of Brockton, nephew Kenneth Johnson of Maine, sister-in-law Barbara Johnson of Brockton, and daughter-in-law Gael Johnson of Lakeville. Frank was predeceased by his nephew Douglas Johnson and his brother Kenneth Johnson.
The family will hold visiting hours for Frank on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, located at 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. Following the visitation, a service will be conducted at the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Frank will be laid to rest with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks in New Bedford for their loving care and support to Frank over the last three years. The Oaks became Frank's home away from home.
Frank W. Johnson Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, as well as for his generous spirit and passion for life. He leaves a legacy of love and integrity that will be cherished by all who knew him.
