Surrounded by his wife of 68 years Eleanor and his daughters, Frank L. Perz passed away on January 6, 2023, in Sarasota Florida.
Frank was born on April 29, 1929, to Louis and Fanny Perz in Queens NY. He attended Pace College, National Brewers Academy, John Hopkins University and Hofstra College.
During the Korean War, Frank served in the US Army 1950 – 1951 in Germany with the 28th Division. He was employed by the F&M Schaefer Brewing company in 1949 as an Apprentice Brewer. Over 37 years, his career in brewing grew with increasing levels of responsibility including multiple relocations in NY, MD, OH, and PA. In 1986, he retired as a Master Brewer and Plant Manager with the Stroh Brewing Co in the Lehigh Valley, PA. After retirement, his knowledge and passion in brewing provided him the ability to consult for private brewing companies. He was a retired member of the Master Brewers Association.
Family was always #1 to Frank. Frank was married to the love of his life Eleanor M Perz (Friedrich) for 68 years. He had 3 children Diane Schlesinger (deceased) wife of John Schlesinger (deceased), Steven Perz, Karen Perz, daughter-in-law Lisa Murtaugh and a "special daughter" Lisa Reppert. Four grandchildren melted his heart: Jennifer Schlesinger, Bradley Perz (deceased), Elise Perz, and Katelyn Perz. He had 1 Sister Lillian Pizza (deceased), Brother-in-law David Friedrich and Sister-in-law Pat Friedrich of NY.
As a 4th degree at the Knights of Columbus, St Thomas More Council #4397 and member of St Thomas More Prime Time, Frank spent many hours involved in volunteer work.
Other volunteer work included: AARP National Health Advocacy Services. Mink Estates Association, PA - President, AARP Chapter #3113, PA - President & Board of Directors, Clearview Manor Association, PA - Board of Directors & President, West End Senior Pinochle Club and Alburtis Senior Center.
Frank enjoyed telling jokes and singing the Star Spangle Banner weekly at his retirement community in Lakewood Ranch, FL. He spent many hours with his community and wife playing cards – he excelled at Pinochle, games and Bingo.
Catholic mass will be held on Friday, January 13th at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Our Lady of the Angels. 12905 State Road 70 E, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202
