Frank J. Stefaniak Sr.

1930 - 2026

Frank J. Stefaniak Sr., 95, of Apollo, passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at AHN Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, after suffering a fall. Born March 1, 1930, in Apollo, he was a son of the late John G. and Mary Ann (Froncek) Stefaniak as the 10th of their 13 children. Frank went to school in Paulton as a child, then when older, joined the United States Army for two tours. He was a medic in San Antonio, TX, and was also in Japan. He was to go to Korea with the 101st Airborne Infantry as a heavy motor operator, but the conflict ended. He came home and married Barbara Ann, and together, they settled in Apollo. Frank worked at the foundry in Vandergrift. He also worked laying carpet and worked in block and brick. He was always busy. Frank raised bees and loved dancing, especially polkas. He went dancing every week with his group of friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, always had a huge garden, and enjoyed a cold beer and cigar at the end of the day, sitting on the porch looking at the river. Frank was a member of St. James Church in Apollo, and his faith was very important to him. He loved his family and will be greatly missed, as he was deeply loved and had many friends. He also belonged to the American Legion, VFW, and Knights of Columbus. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann; his son, Steven Paul; his brothers, Joe, Paul, John, Andy, and George; and his sisters, Irene, Anna, Mary, Rosie, Katie, Betty, and Aggie. Frank is survived by his sons, Frank Jr. (Lavina) Stefaniak and Chuck (Doris) Stefaniak; his grandchildren, Chuckie (Laura) Stefaniak, Chad (Brooke) Stefaniak, Shane (Jaclyn) Stefaniak, Chase (Laeta) Green, William Monson, Jamie (Mark) Spiering, Samantha (Jeremy) Reed, April Stefaniak, and Dana Stefaniak; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, in CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the funeral home at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 109 Owens View Ave., Apollo, with Father Vincent Zidek, O.S.B., as celebrant.
